The Never Ending Conflict

It was on last Wednesday that the social media platforms are out poured with grief on the death of a pregnant Elephant in Kerala. The reason for such a huge rage that the mid day of the week witnessed was that, the pachyderm was dead due to the consumption of the food bomb. This hungry elephant was susceptible to the pineapple filled with the explosive which later exploded when she chomped it. Unable to bear the pain, she remained  impassive in the nearby water body for a long time as life ebbed out of her slowly. This incident created a widespread animosity among all groups of the country and was strongly condemned as the act of inhumanity.
Cartoon that was shared by the most in Ig to condemn the incident
Here, little it matters, Whether the pineapple is consciously been fed or she unknowingly befell as the victim of the food trap used for other big rodents. What needs to be noticed is, this is one more incident that gruesomely remind us the rising Human-Animal Conflicts. These conflicts are not because the Wildlife's encroach the human settlements but its the humans who enter their territories. Most of these conflicts arises with the endangered animals. One must never forget that these animals are already in "endangered" status just because of the man's destructive attitude and such animal intrusions aggravate this attitude more fiercely towards them. Their dwindling habitats and the feeding grounds drag them out of their territory to go in search of food and water. Thus, they wander in search of soft lands adjoining the forests ,and in absence of those, they tend to enter the food-rich farms. Recently, It is estimated that around 60% of elephants in Karnataka roam outside the protected areas.Such movements in landscapes near the forests where the humans dominate result in the repeated Conflicts.

Thus, such conflicts between the humans and animals are destined to grow unless the effective science infused measures are taken. Proper management practises have to be adapted. Of Course, the commercial developments are much awaited and welcomed. But not at the cost of negative impact on the wildlife and eventually on the ecosystem. The mindset of readily exploiting the verdant nature and its resources, with no second thought, should be radically changed. If not there would only be a little chance for these wandering giants to escape from these fatal conflicts. After all, they are just voiceless creatures, unaware of the "Highly Intellectual " Man-made abstract territories.

Understanding that the developmental shifts are to protect rather than to prospect, is the need of the hour, for the sustainment of all lives which are enmeshed .
