The War and Conflicts has always resulted in one of the worst humanitarian crises of our time, The REFUGEES. There are over 70 million people in the world today who were forced to leave their homes as Refugees because of violence, persecution they have experienced .Those who have managed to save their life amidst the war, finally tend to leave their homes and set out on a journey in search of stable places to live that provides protection to their lives. It is the fear that drove them to flee their homes, all of their belongings, family members and friends.
Refugees find their shelter wherever they can . They live in the dumped temporary settlements which are crowded in or in the abandoned buildings. Many reports say, families even stay in the storage sheds, abandoned chicken coops, in a room with no water. All live together in these settlements as an extended family uncertain of where and when they find their next meal. They all lack secure access to food, health care, housing, employment, education , clean drinking water and proper sanitation .
Undoubtedly, these wars devastate the lives of young people. To say, even an Generation. The young Refugees are the ones who suffer the most, mentally and physically,on whom I am personally more concerned. Many of these kids have escaped seeing their neighborhoods attacked or family members killed. Even many have lost a parent, sibling or even been orphaned in the chaos of war. This had left the mental scars which were the hardest challenge for the young minds to overcome. Also, There are no schools in the camp. They have no access to books, pens, paper. And so, the literates tend to teach the kids in camps by writing letters in the dirt instead of on a blackboard. Some of the children have never gone to a real school as they have been in camps for so long.
Many Reporters , Journalists , NGOs , Photojournalists of the world often visit these refugee camps and work hard to expose their lives and everyday struggles to the outside world. Ample of reports on these people are published around the world by reporters of the renounced broadcasters. But one has caught the eye and has gained my utmost attention, the Photographs of Muheisen (My favorite Instagrammer ). He is two-time Pulitzer Prize winning Nat-GEO photographer and the founder of the non-profit organisation "Everyday Refugees Foundation ". Since 2001, he has documented major events around the world. Most importantly, for over a decade he has been documenting the refugee crisis across the Middle East, Asia and Europe. His foundation mainly aims to document , educate, empower and help the refugees and the internally displaced people .
They say “A picture is worth a thousand words.” and I totally admit after viewing his works where he manages to make a difference, through photography. His photographs on the Refugees and their young Children are direct and truthful enough to tell the stories for those who have no voice. They never failed to reveal the pain and fear in the eyes of those kids. They do even tell us the stories boldly. His pictures are the ones that introduced me to the shades of the life that has never been brought to limelight much in our everyday chores. I never fail to visit his gram and other social accounts, where he posts these photographs and that has made me to go deep into their life and most importantly the Children in the camps , who are uncertain on their future. For your convenience, some of photographs that he has shot are attached at the end of the writing (From his Instagram handle).
And now, Have you guys ever been grateful to the shelter and the place you live in ? If not, You should definitely be. We must have seen people who struggle to have money, love, health, food and happiness . But above mentioned are the people , who struggle to survive. Clearly, To live in a place which would promise them a safe and peaceful life that they deserve as every other citizens of the nations they live in.
In short,
It is a time for solidarity, compassion and Gratefulness.
